Forest Schools have been an integral part of Early Years Education in Denmark since the 1980s. The philosophy of Forest School was based upon a desire to provide young people with an education which encouraged appreciation of the natural world and which would encourage responsibility for nature conservation in later life.
Using the outdoor environment, children and students are encouraged and inspired to grow in confidence, independence and self-esteem through the mastery of small achievable tasks.
This National Conference will give you an insight into Forest Schools both in Denmark and in the UK with Danish and English keynote speakers and a range of workshops throughout the day to increase your awareness of Forest School to include:
Using the Outdoor Environment with Adults with Learning Difficulties
Forest School Conference 2005 Workshops
Each delegate will be invited to attend three of the following workshops during the conference day:

The workshop will be divided according to the experience of the delegates to offer the full range of experience from basic activities to more complex skills. This workshop will take place outdoors in any weather so please bring boots and suitable clothing.
Using the Outdoor Environment with Adults with Learning Disabilities
presented by Sue Nutting and Sarah Duffin

Forest School in a Garden presented by Carol Green and Sue Blundell
This workshop will focus on how the philosophy and activities of Forest School/Nature Nurseries can be adapted to a nursery/school garden area. The workshop will involve practical activities outdoors.
The Worcestershire Experience presented by Jenny Doyle
This workshop will examine ways in which Forest School philosophy and ethos can be used in different settings. We will look at an ideal 'Forest School' and how we can make the most of other areas, the 'not quite ideal site', to make Forest School sustainable for groups.
