A group of Finnish hunters are to travel to the German state of Bavaria to help bring down a bear thought to have crossed the border from Austria. Ilpo Kojola, a researcher at the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute, confirmed to the Finnish News Agency (STT) Friday that Finns had been asked to solve the rare problem. The bear has received wide media attention, for the previous such sighting took place over 150 years ago.
The last time a bear was brought down in Germany was in 1835. Excluding the assumed Austrian immigrant, Germany's bear population is nil.
