A conventional but unproved allegation is that 70 % of forest owners' net revenue from timber sales come from sawmills and 30 % from the pulp industry.
Professor Thomas Törnqvist from the Växjö University has studied the question what is the major source of income from felling for forest owners' in Southern Sweden. He says that the proportion 70 / 30 is approximately correct on national level.
In 1995 and 2000 annual revenue from timber sales was 0,54 billion euro. After deduction of all costs in connection with felling, net revenue was 0,43 billion euro. Firewood and forest reciduals were still negligible as sources of revenue.
