A micro-fungus is the probable reason why ash trees all over Sweden are dying. Despite extensive sampling the authorities do not know how to stop the quickly spreading infection. SLU, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, hopes that the solution can be found by means of a research project. Reports of this disease are also coming in from Poland and Lithuania, but neither those countries has managed to determine the reasons for the disease. There do not seem to exist any means of saving forests or individual trees that have been stricken by this illness.
