Record felling in Sweden
Forests are being felled as never before in Sweden. The felled quantity was 87 million cubic metres in 2005 and that is three million cubic metres more than in previous years. Felling has started in earnest after the big storm about two years ago.
This quantity is a new record and its main reason is the favourable development of the market for Swedish wood industry products in recent years. Exports of wood industry products increased by 6 % between 2000 and 2005.
