Nine consumers out of ten prefer paper rather than plastic or other package materials, if they had a free choice. This is the conclusion of a Gallup poll commissioned by the interest group "PaperPlus". A total of 6 500 consumers in seven major European countries were interviewed.
As much as 93 % of them preferred paper for environment conservation reasons. Somewhat fewer preferred paper because it is more convenient. The poll also proves that a majority of those who answered the questions find paper packages easier to open and close than packages made of plastic. Furthermore, paper is easier to handle because it does not break so easily as flexible plastic.
Eight out of ten say that paper is more pleasant to handle. 78 % think that paper labels make the content of a bottle appear more valuable or exclusive.
German consumers have a strong preference of paper. Also Polish and French consumers emphasize that paper is more environment friendly. For Spanish consumers this aspect is the least important.
The PaperPlus organization commissioned the Gallup poll from the company Ipsos. Consumers from France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK were interviewed.
