It is hoped a rare Tasmanian heath could provide a solution for a cinnamon fungus which is attacking the state's plants.
Botanists from the Tasmanian Government and Kew Gardens in England have collected seeds from a heath in the Furneaux Islands in Bass Strait.
"Because it's rare we don't know a lot about the ecology of the plant, we don't know a lot about its seed," he said.
"We've taken the seed from the stronghold of its distribution in the Furneaux [Islands and] we'll be able to find out more about it and understand what sort of factors are at play in its ecology.
