Foreign haulage contractors will be permitted to haul timber from storm stricken areas in Southern Sweden without any traffic permit. This exception from normal regulations will apply in ten provinces in Southern Sweden. The exception is only temporary and will remain in force from 12 February to 30 September 2007.
The reason for the Government's decision is the need for increasing transport capacity in order to have timber quickly removed from storm stricken areas.
Mr Eskil Erlandsson, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, says in a press release that by opening this business for foreign haulage contractors we will reduce the risk of bark beetle attacks. Ms ?sa Torstensson, Minister for Communications, is very satisfied that domestic haulage contracts take such a positive attitude to the Government's decision.
