The International Workshop is aimed at qualifying leaders from all around the world, on a regional and national level, for a responsible and sustainable rural development and thus at improving the quality of life of young people in rural areas.
Main focus
Workshop participants shall develop strategies to initiate and stabilise rural youth work.
They shall primarily deal with particular problems concerning rural youth, methods helping to activate young people and to encourage their willingness to assume personal responsibility and successful project management.
Participants shall elaborate concrete conceptual proposals to improve the education and training situation, create jobs and develop rural youth structures.
The workshop is held under the patronage of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The International Workshop conveys skills and knowledge in the following fields:

Seminary workshop
Participants actively contribute to all parts of the programme and acquire key leadership qualifi cations as well as communication and public relations techniques.
Taking into consideration the social and cultural situation in the participants‘ home countries, the workshop includes various interactive and participantoriented training methods.
Towards the end of the workshop, participants present new strategies for rural development and youth work.
The programme will be rounded off with expert presentations, excursions and meetings with rural people in Germany.
The international team of lecturers includes youth, team and project work experts.
Background of the workshop
The International Workshop organised by the Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz) enjoys a long-standing tradition:
Since 1962, over 1500 participants from 141 countries have taken part in the bi-annual seminar in Herrsching which has gradually developed into a workshop. Motivated by the intensity and atmosphere of this International Workshop, they have strengthened the worldwide network for the promotion of leaders in rural youth work.
Criteria for participation
The workshop aims at responsible leaders and multipliers involved in youth work or educational training in rural areas.
Participants should be between 25 and 45 years of age.
The work in language groups requires the participations’ permanent and active collaboration.
Language proficiency
A very good, active command of at least one of the three workshop languages (German, English, French) is a prerequisite.
Participants must be able to deliver presentations, present results and lead discussions in their chosen language.
For conversational purposes, knowledge of a second (and third) Workshop language is desirable.
Organisation
The Workshop is organised by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung) and is taking place at the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz) of the Federal Republic of Germany. The workshop is held by the Bavarian Agriculture House (Haus der Bayerischen Landwirtschaft) in Herrsching.
Workshop fees
The workshop fees include board and lodging.
They amount to Euro 510,00.
Preference will be given to self-pay participants.
Financial support can be granted under certain conditions. In this case, the registration form must be accompanied by a justifi ed application confi rmed by the employer/organisation.
