The central opening is held in a certain region of the country, and programs are organized through Hungary.
In 1997 the I. Week of Forests called upon the audience to “Do more together for our forests!” Its central message was that you do not have to protect the forest from the forester, because the forester is the welfare worker of the forests.
In 1998, the II. Week of Forests was organized under the title of “Forestry and Society”.
Their efforts for communication with the public were appriciated by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS). The “Forest and man” opening session of the III. Week of Forests was held in the hall of HAS, on 27. September 1999. The President of HAS presented the opening speech.
In 2000 the press conference of the IV. Week of Forests of the Hungarian Millennium was held in the Forest exhibition hall of the Agricultural Museum, in Vajdahunyad Castle, on 24. October 2000.
In 2001, the V. Week of Forests was introduced in Budapest, in the Forestry Information Centre, focusing on the “Elimination of littering in forests”.
On 3. October 2002, a conference was organized for opening the VI. Week of Forests in Felsőtárkány, with the title of “Forest shools serving forest management, nature protection and society”. Under-secretary of Nature Protection László Haraszthy presented the opening speech. The aim of the conference was to fortify the co-operation of forestry and nature protection administration, and the role of forest schools and pedagogues.
The VII. Week of Forest was opened on 3. October 2003, in the Chamber of Senate in the Parliament, as a part of the “Open day of forestry” that was organized by the Forestry Subcommittee of Agricultural Committee of the National Assembly. The prizes of the art competition were also given to the children living in the Carpathian Basin.
The matter of the VIII. Week of Forests was the role of private forests, on 16. September 2004, on the site of ERDŐSZÖV Magánerdészeti Rt.
The opening session of the IX. Week of Forests was organized on 29. September 2005, in the Valley of Csanyik (Miskolc), at the ribbon cutting ceremony of “Csemete Hátizsákos Erdészeti” Forest School of ÉSZAKERDŐ Zrt.
The country-wide opening session of the X. Week of Forests took place in Sopron, on 20. September 2006, in the “House of Forests”. Here was assembled the I. European Forest-pedagogian Meeting.
In 2007. the XI. Week of Forests fits to the European-regional Biomass Days, beginning on 1. October.
The focus point of the forest schools is on eliminating littering in forests. They have to messages: “Only your footsteps should be left in the forest, and only your memories should be taken home”. The other is: “Take your litter with you and save energy!” Their aim is to do away with the waste-bins in the forest.
