The Swedish Forest Agency will initiate co-operation with China. That was agreed when the Chinese Forest Minister Zhou Shengxian visited Sweden in order to make contacts and to study Swedish forestry. Mr Göran Enander, Director General of the Forest Agency, and Minister Shengxian signed a co-operation agreement.

- China is a very interesting country, where forests and forestry become more and more important. We can contribute with know-how how to pursue sustainable forestry in China. China's main problem is that the strong economic growth impacts heavily on the country's natural resources, including its forests. Mr Enander says that the Chinese see Sweden as a model country in these questions.
Minister Zhou Shengxian is not only interested in sustainable and environmental friendly forestry. He also wanted to learn about Swedish legislation, state run forestry, research and the Forest Agency's methods for implementing forestry policy by means of spreading information and advice to responsible forest owners.
