Oberstdorf, Germany – He won the title of world champion of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES, the elite division of lumberjacking sports, in Oberstdorf, Bavaria (Germany). Defending champion Jason Wynyard, likewise of New Zealand, took second place. The surprise third-place finisher was Swiss champion Hermann Schönbächler.

Fifteen athletes from fourteen nations competed to crown the best of their class. Participants included athletes from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Europe. Host country Germany was represented by the reigning German and European champion Dirk Braun.
More than 12,000 spectators witnessed a worthy conclusion to the season at the world championship in Oberstdorf. The highlight of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES season will be seen by viewers around the world via Eurosport, ESPN and TSN.
The STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES, which evolved from the tradition of trials of strength between professional lumberjacks, especially in the USA and Canada, is embarking on its 22nd year worldwide. The athletes vied with one another at the world championship in the disciplines underhand chop, standing block chop, Stihl stock saw, single buck, springboard and hot saw. The hot saw is a 62 HP chain saw that weighs approx. 27 kilos.
The world champion awaited not only fame and glory, but a Suzuki Grand Vitara as well. The way back home to New Zealand by car “remains my secret” said the 36-year-old Bolstad after his victory.
