In a time of globalisation and societal change, the European forest-based sector needs to be innovative. This requires emphasis on research and development and strong links between science and business.
The 5th conference of the Forest-Based Sector Technology Platform (FTP) will discuss the meaning of research and innovation to forest-based business. The event will present success stories of how research and innovation are implemented in the daily business practice.
The 5th FTP conference will offer an excellent networking opportunity to those working in Europe’s forest-based business. They can meet their colleagues, as well as members of the research community and European and national policy makers. One of the focal points of the conference is the forest-based sector in Southern and South-Eastern Europe.
The 5th FTP conference will be held in Slovenia, president of the European Union during the first half of 2008. Venue will be the beautifully situated alpine town of Kranjska Gora.
The organisers have secured the commitment of Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research, to deliver a keynote speech during the conference's final session. The conference will include several plenary and poster presentations wit examples of good practices in forest-based business innovation. A panel debate led by British broadcaster and writer Chris Baines will look at innovation issues from different perspectives.
The tentative programme for the conference is available on the FTP5 conference website (see link below). Online registration through the same website will start in January 2008.
About the FTP
The Forest-Based Sector Technology Platform (FTP), set up in 2004, is one of the European Technology Platforms, public-private partnerships endorsed by the European Commission with the aim to enhance sectoral research and development programmes. Within FTP, industry, forest owners, and the research community work together towards a common goal - an innovative and globally competitive forest-based sector in Europe. FTP facilitates focused investments and fosters a more efficient approach to innovation, whilst stimulating coordination of European and national research agendas. It supports the ongoing development of a relevant knowledge-base for the sector and the application of emerging technologies
