To date there have been 70 sites in use for customs declarations for timber, both in Russia and near the Russia-Finland border. On Tuesday, only about half of these sites will be in use, Yle reports.
The move will imply a dramatic drop imports of Russian timber to Finland. Russia has yet to reply to Finland's request to postpone the change from taking effect until the autumn.
The closure of the customs points will have significant effect on Finnish buyers of timber, as the goods will have to be re-routed.
Following the decision to boost export tariffs on round timber, Russian authorities now closes down several customs stations on the border to Finland.
