Families in Shropshire are being encouraged to join a special charity Easter egg hunt at the Forestry Commission’s Haughmond Hill near Shrewsbury on Sunday 23rd March, in aid of Hope House Children’s Hospice .
The Pinetops Café team and Shrewsbury Ramblers Association will be co-ordinating the event between 9am and 3.30pm from the Haughmond Hill car park and picnic site - just off the B5062 between Shrewsbury and Newport.
Children and their families can spend the whole day exploring the popular beauty spot in search of clues to win chocolate surprises, whilst helping to raise money for terminally ill children at the Oswestry hospice.
Woodland walks and panoramic views over Shrewsbury to the surrounding hills are within easy reach of the car park and the All Ability Trail enables the whole family to take part.
Georgina Sharp, Recreation Ranger for the Forestry Commission in the Marches area, said:
"Haughmond Hill is a fantastic place to hold the Easter egg hunt and we hope to see as many people as possible come along to this special charity event on Easter Sunday.
"Spring is a great time to start getting out and about and active in our woodlands if you haven't already started. We've recently made changes to the wood including special waymarked trails, seating along an all ability route, accessible picnic benches for wheelchair users and families with buggies, plus an information board on the history of the Hill."
The All Ability Yellow Trail is the easiest of the three routes at 0.8 miles and takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. The longest route is the Blue Trail, which is 2.1 miles long and takes about 70 minutes to do.
The south west end of the hill once boasted a castle-like folly that featured in 19th century paintings of the hill. Around the site of the folly people can still find traces of earth banks and ditches that are believed to be remnants of an enclosure, which may have been occupied during the Saxon period, or earlier.
Tickets for the charity Easter egg hunt on Haughmond Hill are priced at ?1 per person and can be obtained from the Pinetops Café on the day.
Pinetops Cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am until 3pm, serving hot and cold snacks to visitors.
