The Minister of Environment and Water suggested the forest sector’s right of asset management of the forests in the area of national parks should be taken over by the national parks themselves. He urges this change because the state forest management in the present form of economic organizations can legally do clear cutting.
This argumentation is misleading, because since 1996 in the forests located in national parks clear cutting can only be done with the permission of the nature conservation authority, in accordance with the aims of nature conservation, by virtue of the nature conservation law This situation would not change after the possible taking over of the right of asset management.
The other misleading information refers to 30-40 billion forints rising from the increasing of CO2-credits due to the afforestation of areas in the national parks. This amount of scale refers to all of the country’s state and private forests that are existing and are to be planted, no matter whether it is located in a protected area or not.
The Hungarian Association of Forestry does not agree with the taking over of the right of asset management, and the relating argumentation. It offers its consultative help with the preparation of the informing material referring to the forests and the forest management; offers its participation in the planned platform helping the conservation of nature – and suggests the involvement of the representatives of state forest management.
