The three sessions of the congress presented Australian forestry – the forest “down under” – the Invisible forest project and the final session focused on climate change, climate policy, forestry and the possibilities for forest owners.
“The Invisible Forest Project” is a project aiming at making forest owners and forest stewards more visible. The industrial forestry is very visible, but the family and private forestry is not. IFFA will use the project to highlight the importance of those who really act in the forest and the importance of long-term forest management, like the generation bridging family forestry.
At the Congress, Mark Parsons from the Bureau of Rural sciences presented Australia’s Forests and Forest Industries. Miles Prosser from A3P presented the Australian Carbon Reduction Scheme. Bob Simpson from The American Forest Foundation presented the US Carbon Aggregation for Family Forest Owners, a concrete scheme for selling carbon credit. Lea Jylhä from MTK in Finland presented the European View on the Climate Change Challenge and climate change policies.
A Climate change for forestry was the theme for the 6th International Forest Owners’ Congress arranged in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the International Family Forestry Alliance in Canberra 29 October 2008
