The hunt is scheduled for Dec. 27 to Jan. 11 in permit area 101.
Deer can spread the highly contagious pulmonary disease. The hunt is intended to thin the deer herd and lower that risk of contaminating more cattle herds.
Once the special hunt concludes, the DNR says it may hire sharpshooters to further reduce deer populations in the area.
After several beef herds in the northwestern Minnesota tested positive for the disease, the U.S. Agriculture Department has restricted the interstate sale of bison and cattle from there.
Producers in the area now have stricter testing requirements for moving the animals over state lines.
