A New South Wales woodchip processor has accused the Green Party of
misleading the public about its plans for a biomass power plant in the
Australian state. This week Senate candidate Lee Rhiannon said that after the August 21 general election she would lobby the government to stop the South East Fibre Exports project, which wll burn woodchips to generate electricity. She said the plant would harm the environment.
Company spokesperson Vince Phillips said the plant would use mill waste, such as bark – not woodchips.
He said the Green Party also claimed the company planned to build multiple plants.
“They [the Green Party] want to achieve 100% closure of the native forest industry, and if they can do it by using 100% misinformation, they will,” said Mr Phillips.
