March 16, 2012 - The Finnish Forest Research Institute – Metla has
published a handbook about the Russian forest sector – ”Northwest
Russian Forest Sector in a Nutshell”. The book is targeted for specialists and decision-makers in companies, organizations, forest administration and management, and it can also be used for research and training purposes.
Presented data covers the whole chain from forest to end-product
The handbook studies the general questions on forestry, forest policy and forest industry that are common for the all regions of the Russian Federation. Principles and state of the whole forest sector is described. A detailed analysis is represented of the Northwest Federal District including Arkhangelsk, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod, Pskov and Vologda regions, as well as Republics of Karelia and Komi.
Information is based mainly on recent Russian publications on the issue. The essential statistical data is collected from the publications of the Federal State Statistical Service of Russia (Rosstat) and Federal Forestry Agency of Russia (Rosleshoz) and forest plans of the Northwest Russian regions.
Three of the authors are working as scientific researchers in the Finnish Forest Research Institute and one as a lecturer in the St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University.
