24 June 2015 - 22 June started the second regional Asian Market Analysis and Development (MA&D) training in Hanoi, Vietnam, 22-26 June.
19 participants from Vietnam, Myanmar, Nepal and Indonesia are renewing and sharing their experiences of implementing MA&D activities since the first regional training in January 2015. Over the last months participants have been carrying out trainings of local trainers, facilitators and farmers as part of their national working plans, with the aim to help farmers assess their situation and select the most promising products for enterprise development. For the second training course, participants are bringing back key data from their previous activities to cover the next phases in the MA&D approach, which is focused on developing enterprise development plans and understanding the process of facilitating the startup of new enterprises. As part of this training, participants will do a field visit to small businesses in the Hanoi area, to learn the use of enterprise development plans. The training is a joint undertaking between the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) and the Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC) to develop business capacities among forest-dependent small holders and communities and start up sustainable enterprises, reliant on natural resources. The MA&D model is used by FFF to help smallholder forest and farm producers strenghten their capacities, improve incomes from accessing markets for their products and reckognising the benefits of getting organized in groups. MA&D uses an holistic approach to enterprise development, taking into consideration five areas of; natural resource managment; financial; social; technical; and institutional sustainability.
