28 January 2022 - From 28 January 2022, veterinarians will be required to report monthly on antibiotics used in food-producing animals in order to combat antimicrobial resistance and use medicines responsibly.
Nébih's (National Food Safety Authority) new electronic reporting interface is now available to fulfill this obligation. Also new is that wholesalers will now be able to submit their annual distribution reports in this system. The provision, which will enter into force on 28 January, is intended to promote the responsible use of antibiotics in accordance with new EU legislation and the recommendations of international organizations. Wholesalers submit an annual report on the marketing of antibiotic-containing veterinary medicinal products by March each year. From this year, the obligation to provide information also covers use. In the case of food-producing animals, it must be submitted to the veterinarians on a monthly basis (by the 15th of each month, for the first time by 15 March). A novelty for both parties involved is that the notification must be made through the Customer Profile System operated by Nébih (https://upr.nebih.gov.hu/). The measure is partly intended to prepare for the EU reporting obligation from 2024 and to allow cross-checking of antibiotic sales and use data. A guide to using the notification system and a thematic collection of “frequently asked questions” are available on the Office's website: https://portal.nebih.gov.hu/allatgyogyaszati-teremek. Based on international experience, the new standards will make a significant contribution to curbing the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and thus to the protection of public and animal health.
