Aussie builders are urged to use Australian timber in construction
Australian builders and home handymen are being urged to show their patriotism and insist on only Australian grown and harvested timber.
Australian Forestry and Conservation Minister, Senator lan Macdonald, said recently that Australia Day was the ideal time to reflect on ways we could make our nation stronger, and one was for all those planning construction work to use only Australian timber.
”Whether it be pine from Queensland, jarrah from WA or myrtle from Tasmania, the Australian timber industry has a reputation for providing world-class product,” Senator Macdonald said.
”You can also buy this fine product in the knowledge that it is sustainably harvested from forests that will continue to supply timber to our nation for centuries to come.
”As part of our election commitments, the Australian Government is investigating a ban on imported timber that is sourced from countries that do not have sustainable forest practices.
”But Australians can lead the way by using only Australian timber for house extensions and new buildings.
”For a country as well endowed with sustainable forest as Australia is, it is incredible that we still havea $1.8 billion trade deficit in wood and forest products.
”Australia Day is a great opportunity to make ourselves a commitment to only use Australian timber in 2005.
”You can rest assured you are using the best quality product, helping to keep Australian jobs, and making the best environmental choice as well.”
