Following the enlargement of the European Union in 2004, Europe now hopes to establish structures better tailored to its needs. The European institutions have therefore decided that the Festival of Europe 2005 should be on the subject of the European Constitution.

So on 30 April various European and Belgian institutions are getting together for a big celebration in the European quarter. It will be closed to traffic, not for a European Summit, but so that the people who live and work there can celebrate Europe.
The Festival trail will begin at the European Parliament and end at the Schuman roundabout and the Berlaymont building.
Although Europe will be celebrating, it will not have forgotten that, sadly, in many places throughout the world, people are suffering – particularly in the aftermath of armed conflicts and oppression. That’s why you will find a contact point on the way round for humanitarian organisations to inform you about the work they are doing.
