EFI with it's collaborators is arranging a side-event 'Regional Forest Research Organisations - experiences and visions' in connection to the XXII IUFRO World Congress in Brisbane, Australia.
Title: Regional Forest Research Organisations - experiences and visions
Date: Friday 12 August 2005
Time: 7.00pm - 9.00pm
Venue: Room P5, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre
Organisers: EFI, CIFOR, CATIE, UNU, IUFRO
Between the national forest research organisations and their global
union – IUFRO - there are regional or thematical forest research networks and organisations, which have a special role in international collaboration of research. Such examples are CATIE, CIFOR and EFI. There are other initiatives - for instance in Latin America - which aim at considering the need for strengthening regional collaboration in forest research. Which type of organisation would be the most suitable in different region depend on research culture of the region, interest for networking and on the available resources.
Lately, there has been identified a need to learn from existing
examples, and to discuss the future potentials of regional organisations. The IUFRO World Congress is an optimal platform for such discussion between the partners of existing organisations, and the potential partners of new initiatives.
The objectives of the satellite event 'Regional Forest Research
Organisations - experiences and visions' are to
- Disseminate experiences of regional actions in forest research
- Learn from each other the best practices
- Discuss the directions of regional forest research - Where to focus?
- Consider the optimal role of regional organisation - between national
and global ones.
Speakers include: Glenn Galloway, CATIE, David Kaimowitz, CIFOR, Risto Päivinen, EFI.
