The lockout in the Finnish paper industry cut the estimated gross national product by one percent. That means a loss of 1.5 billion euro for the Finnish national economy. The labour conflict in early summer lasted for six weeks
The three main paper industry companies suffered losses of about 400 million euro. The conflict reduced Stora Enso’s profits by 150 million euro and it reduced UPM’s interim profits by 175 million euro. In its interim report the company M-real estimates that company has suffered losses of 70 million euro.
The labour conflict cut forest owners’ income from wood sales by a couple of hundred million euro. The impact on lumbering enterprises’ income was 40 million euro and transport companies suffered losses of 30 million euro. Apart from the wood production chain, the repercussions of the conflict spread to sawmills and to other parts of society, for example to wholesale and retail sales and the municipalities.
