From the seminar „Certification of non-state forests in Slovakia – How surrounding countries are doing?“ , held on September 22, 2005 at TU in Zvolen
Private forest owners in Slovakia participating at the seminar understand certification as a tool for international acknowledgment of their approach to forests, better commertional use of wood and forest products and services. They manage their forest properties according to long-term tradition of forestry in Slovakia.. They support sustainable forest management programme in a full extent.
They respect and fulfil the political commitments of Slovak Republic resulting from resolutions of ministerial conferences on protection of forests in Europe.
They require establishment of adequate conditions and measures for fulfilment of environmental and social functions of forests in order to fully follow the commitments.
In order to support sustainable forest management they recommend to:
support Slovak certification system using certificates in PEFC scheme
2. lead a dialogue with consumers and costumers of wood and wood products on the need of sustainable forest management and certification of wood origin
continue in opened dialogue with environmental organizations on necessity of economically viable, ecological and socially contributing forest management
initiate establishment of a platform representing common objectives of private forest owners and other stakeholders for adequate increasing of forest utilization on a base of sustainable forest management
