Skogforsk, the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden, that coordinates EFORWOOD, hosts the event which is expected to gather representatives from 38 research institutes, universities and European industry confederations in 21 countries including four international research organisations.
The objective of EFORWOOD is to develop a decision support tool that will be used for evaluating and developing the contribution of the European forest-based sector to a sustainable development from an economic, environmental and social point of view. The project will cover the whole European forestry-wood value chain, from forestry, industrial manufacturing and consumption to recycling of materials and products.
After years of preparations, project coordinator Kaj Rosén at Skogforsk now looks forward to gathering all the involved organisations and get work started – work that will indeed require cooperation between organisations and people all over Europe and also internationally.
- The project structure facilitates cooperation and for enabling EFORWOOD to reach its targets all project partners must share both data and know-how, says Kaj Rosén.
It is also important that EFORWOOD's contacts with the European forestry and forest industry sector works well, so there are special sub-projects and activities that will promote cooperation between EFORWOOD and external interests.
- The commitment from the European forestry-wood chain actors is a good sign for the coming work, he says.
EFORWOOD will run for four years, engage 38 organisations from 21 countries and is planned for a budget of 20 million euro, 13 million euro of which from the European Commission.
EFORWOOD starts with a kick-off meeting, the opening session of which is open for media, see programme below. During the coffee break at 10.30 a.m., it will be possible to interview the opening session speakers.
