The project of the forest owners' association Mellanskog to provide training in forest management to female forest owners is a success. Female forest owners have taken so much interest in the project that after one year's work Mellanskog has decided to go on with the training. The scope of the training shall also be extended to include inter alia handling of power chain saws.
The background of the project to train women in forest management is that 30 per cent of the members of the forest owners' association Mellanskog are women.
The association has held two courses in clearing and thinning forests, one course in maintaining and managing boundary lines. In November a new basic course in forestry will be initiated in co-operation with the Swedish Board of Forestry. Next spring there will be more courses in clearing and thinning.
So far almost 200 women have passed the training courses.
