Swedish production of sawn timber hit a new record in 2005. Preliminary statistics indicate that production reached 17.8 million m3. That is an increase of about 6 % in comparison with the last record year 2004.
In 2005 Swedish production of paper and cardboard reached 11.7 million tons, which is an increase of 1 % in comparison with 2004.

Exports also increased by 2 % to 10.1 million tons. Europe is still Swedish wood industry's main market where the increase was the highest; just over 3 % to 8.2 million tons. In Asia China is the most important market. Export volume was 250 000 tons, an increase of 9 %.
Swedish paper mills used 2 million tons of recycled paper, which is the same quantity as in 2004.
In 2005 the estimated export value of Swedish wood industry products was almost 12,4 billion EURO, as compared to 11,9 billion EURO in 2004.
