A warmer climate where diseases, insects and a different growth rate have an impact on forests also requires resources for intensified research. Increased demand for wood and timber will create a need for new methods for accelerating forest growth and for avoiding depletion of our forests.At a recent research meeting between Nordic forest researcher, several proposals were made to solve these problems, for example making paper and pulp industry more efficient by developing new methods for using wood. One possibility would be to produce chemicals for industrial purposes.
Basic research shall be applied for accelerating wood processing, for producing better plants for nurseries, for providing genetically modified trees and for forestry with tree cloning, all for the purpose of improving both productivity and quality.
