Ordinary Swedish deciduous trees could be exploited much more effectively. That is the message by Mr Martin Werner and Mr Lars Rytter at Skogforsk, the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden. They have developed a new web-based support for tending birch, aspen, hybrid aspen and alder.

This system constitutes part of the forestry portal on the web, called “Knowledge Directly” ("Kunskap Direkt"). Its target groups are forest owners and their advisers. The portal contains inter alia guidelines and instructions when and how forest shall be felled and cleared.
There are about 70 000 visits at this portal annually and Skogforsk believes that the trend is upwards. The world around is becoming more and more aware of advise to be found on the web. "Knowledge Directly" was created by Skogforsk in co-operation with the Swedish Federation of Forest Owners and the Swedish Forest Agency.
