The planting season has got on to a good start in Finland. On the basis of comparable figures in 2004 the estimated area to be planted this spring will amount of 160 000 hectares, of which 22 000 hectares is state owned forest and 9000 hectares is owned by wood processing industry.
Birch must be planted in spring before the buds open. Pine should be planted before the young trees start growing in spring in order to avoid that the new tender and delicate growing tree tops break.
Spruce can be planted until the end of June. The planted species should be adapted to their growth environment.
