DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Director, Forest Products and Economics Division and the direct supervision of the Chief, Forest Economics Service will provide assistance to the Service’s programme of work in global socio-economic analysis in support of forestry development. Specifically to:
assist in undertaking economic and policy analysis of forestry investments, including natural and planted forests, production and processing of wood and non-wood forests products;
prepare draft analyses of best practices in forestry policy and project appraisal and non-market benefits of forestry;
contribute to planning and implementing regional and global forest sector outlook studies;
support capacity building through assisting in the organization of training workshops, meetings, seminars, etc.
collaborate in the development of guidelines, manuals and training materials relating to the application of economic analysis to forestry;
assist with the development of strategies, programmes and projects in support of forestry development.
perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
University degree in forestry, including studies in economics; OR a degree in economics, including studies in forestry
Three years of relevant work experience in forestry economics
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
Relevance of education and training
Extent of knowledge of economic issues relating to forestry and land use
Extent of experience in the application of economic analysis to forestry
Extent of experience in dealing with forestry issues in developing countries or countries in transition
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Additional language skills with emphasis on languages of the organization (Arabic, Chinese, English, French or Spanish)

REMUNERATION
Level P-2 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 64,532 US$ 79,337 (without dependants) and from US$ 68,800 to US$ 85,025 (with dependants)
