Background
In Europe, the hugely successful “HolzBau Forum” (“holzbau” means “wood construction” in German) has become the largest single annual conference event in its field, held for 22 years each December in Garmisch Partenkirchen in southern Germany and normally attracting around 1500 architects, engineers, manufacturers and construction professionals. Holzbau events are now held in Italy, France, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.
A collaboration between UBC Centre for Advanced Wood Processing, Oregon State University College of Forestry, University of Northern British Columbia and FPInnovations will launch an annual Pacific Northwest version of the conference series here on home shores.
Themes
The Holzbau Pacific Northwest event is intended to fill a critical gap in the current provision of professional development by addressing questions specifically of interest to the manufacturing community. The conference will be focused around three key themes;
Track 1 – Manufacturing and Installation:
Manufacturing processes for wood-based construction products and systems – latest developments in machinery and technology, business models for entering markets such as mass timber, capital equipment needs, return on investment potential, anticipated future market demand for wood-based building products.
Track 2 – Building Physics:
Building physics, energy efficiency trends, the changing regulatory landscape, and implications for building product manufacturers.
Track 3 – Implications of Wood Construction Research for Manufacturers and Engineers:
Recent research and development in wood construction and the relevance and potential opportunities for manufacturers.
