The digital version of the Erdészeti Lapok (Forestry Journal) issued in 1863. January has been completed
It was brought up years ago that the earlier issues of the Forestry Journal – which was founded in 1862, Selmecbánya, by Károly Wagner - should be made accessible also for the general public.
This monthly paper is the second oldest pressed media in Hungary. It is owned by the Hungarian Association of Forestry, and it represents special professional and cultural historical values. These facts were recognised by the leaders of the National Széchényi Library, and they gladly started the cooperation.
The aim of the publishers of the journal was to establish forestry literature in Hungarian language, to improve professional training and to unite professional foresters.
During the cooperation and tests done with the National Széchényi Library, the digital archives of the Forestry Journal have been put on the Internet, and it is accessible by any users – said László Nagy, Ipolyerdő Zrt.
The system is integrated into the Electronic Periodicals Database that has been operated by the NSzL for several years. This way more users are within reach, because this is the first and most complete e-library and e-journal system in Hungary.
For further details on this topic, please visit EPD’s opening page: http://epa.oszk.hu
The Forestry Journal is integrated in the following way: we got two patches for the opening interface.
We created a telling title: http://epa.oszk.hu/erdeszeti_lapok
Through this one reaches an indexed interface, where one can find detailed catalogues, imprint, guide to the journal (from the website of the Forestry Journal, written by Dr János Sárvári), opening-counter, and the most important feature: full text search system, with which (taking the limits of the program into account, like the simplification of the compounds, etc.) - one can search for author, subject and other features in the complete text of the uploaded stock.
After the search one can click on the relevant year (e.g. 1863) to get to the stock data of the digitalized issue of the journal: http://epa.oszk.hu/html/vgi/kardexlap.phtml?aktev=1863&id=1192
By clicking on any of the stock data one can navigate to the index of the given issue: http://epa.oszk.hu/01100/01192/00014/pdf/
Here, according to the above-introduced structure, the articles can be downloaded one by one, by clicking on the titles in the index: http://epa.oszk.hu/01100/01192/00014/pdf/EL_1863_01_020-024.pdf
Because of the pdf format, Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed for the articles to read. (This is a free program that can be downloaded from the Internet.)
Adobe Acrobat Reader provides several setting possibilities (view, enlargement, etc.), so we can flexibly customize it.
In the imprint of each and every issue one can find the Hungarian Association of Forestry, the NSzL and the Ipolyerdő Zrt. besides the names of the realizers.
Besides, the opening page of the Forestry Journal can be reached by a non-telling URL, but the usage of the telling URL is easier: http://epa.oszk.hu/01100/01192
The Forestry Journal archives can also be accessed through the opening page of the e-journal, with telling and non-telling URL:
http://efolyoirat.oszk.hu/01100/01192
http://efolyoirat.oszk.hu/erdeszeti_lapok
We hope the continuation of the digitalisation, although the digitalisation of the total stock costs almost 10 million forints. This amount is not available for the Hungarian Association for Forestry.
