The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has rolled out plans to plant 39 million tree seedlings in government gazetted forests and farms during this year’s rainy season in North Rift region. KFS regional head of conservancy Dedan Ndiritu said the seedlings which are currently in nurseries are ready for planting and that they will be distributed across the region. He said out of the 39 million seedling, 7 million will be planted on a 5,000 hectares of gazetted government forests while the remaining will be planted on farms outside the government forests. Long rains “I am asking residents in North Rift region to take advantage of the current long rains to plant trees on their land as part of environmental conservation efforts,” said Ndiritu. The KFS boss was addressing the press during a tree-planting exercise sponsored by Eldoret Water and Sewage Service Company at Kaptagat Forest in Uasin Gishu county.
