The European Union will finance two environmental management and conservation projects in Taita-Taveta District at a cost of Sh43.6 million.
The funds will be channeled through Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF), a joint initiative of the Government and the European Commission, which is aimed at poverty alleviation.
CDTF Projects Co-ordinator, Mr Njoka Miu, said the two projects would in addition to sustaining environmental programmes create viable agro-economic activities to improve rural livelihoods of the local communities.
He said EU support is aimed at developing a comprehensive and sustainable environmental system to tackle challenges associated with conservation.
Miu was speaking during the launch of Mbololo and Mwambirwa Integrated Forest Conservation project in Taita Taveta District, Coast Province.
The EU, through CDTF, gave Sh20.2 million to Taita Environmental Management Alliance for environmental management activities during the event.
