A new law for the modernization of agriculture, adopted in France on
July 13th, affects also the forestry sector as it targets to intensify
the timber mobilization in small private-owned forests. Henceforth, all individuals who own more than 25 hectares of forest have to provide a "document de gestion durable", a planning book that shows the sustainable forest management, even if the ownership is fragmented.
To boost log mobilization in different regions perennial action plans are provided. In the future, local initiatives must adapt and submit to these action plans. In the core areas of regional action plans, the State Forestry Agency ONF is allowed to push the mobilization in cooperation with private forest owners. Individuals with a total area under 25 hectares can expect tax incentives if they consult specialized forest experts for advice.
