The Danish Forest Day on Sunday 9 May 2010 attracted about 26,000
visitors to visit the over 60 different events in private and public
forests all over the country. As usual, there were considerable differences between the arrangements of individual events. In some places there were extensive and spectacular arrangements, in particular for families with children. Some examples are tree climbing, tractor tours and grilling over open fire. Other places offered an opportunity of getting together with forest owners and people working in the forest. Many visitors were happy to meet for example hunters and experts on handling forest fires.
The Danish Hunting and Forestry Museum in Hörsholm arranged one of the most spectacular events, i.e. the Danish championships in axe throwing. Mr Jens Johansen from Stevns won the contest. In the same place an unofficial Nordic championship competition in tree felling was also arranged. Denmark won by 5 to 1.
This event was the sixteenth Forest Day on end that the Danish Forest Association and "Skov- og Naturstyrelsen" (the National Forest and Nature Agency) arranged together. The next event is planned for 2011.
