Organiser: UNFF Secretariat The United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) has declared 2011 the International Year of Forests (IYF). The event will be a celebration of the importance forests play in people’s everyday life. The overall objective of the Year is to strengthen the efforts to promote sustainable management, conservation and development of forests as well as to build momentum towards greater public participation in forest activities around the world.
The official launch of the Year of Forests will take place during the ninth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) . An International Forest Film Festival (IFFF) is in the core of the launch with the topic Forests for People.
