December 30, 2019 - This year, sporadic outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian flu in domestic and wild birds have occurred in several European countries.
Most recently, an outbreak was reported from the United Kingdom in mid-December. The National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nebih) would like to draw the attention of the animal keepers to the importance of the containment protection of the farms!
Avian flu virus continues to pose a threat to poultry flocks. Migratory wild birds play a primary role in its distribution. Sporadic cases have occurred in several European countries this year. Recently an outbreak of a broiler flock has been reported from the United Kingdom.
The international experience, the large presence of wild birds in our country, as well as the recent specific case prove the importance of prevention.
It is important that only one flock is installed on a farm, which ensures that all animals can be closed when needed. The veterinary authority must be informed in writing in advance of the likely date of introduction. Any direct or indirect contact of poultry flocks with wild birds must be prevented. Keeping livestock indoors is still advisable, but feeding and watering indoors is a permanent requirement.
